As development of the Eagle's Nest of Alabama continues there will be educational phases added that will take place in and around an example of what a Southeastern Native American Village once looked like. In the southeast, Native American Indians did not live in tipi villages. With the assistance of Elders and recognized scholars the village will be constructed to historical accuracy standards. Ultimately it will be here in the Village that the story tellers, musicians and demonstrators will share with the visiting public.
The Cherokee Village is planned to consist of:
45-foot diameter Council House
22-foot diameter Holy Man Lodge
Up to ten (10) small lodges or dwelling units
A two (2) acre pond site
A peninsula sticking out into the center of the pond to house two (2) sweat lodges and fire.
Tentative plans also include a traditional square for ceremony.
The intent behind the Cherokee Village development is that when visitors visit the village, upon leaving they will feel as if they have just stepped back 200 plus years in time. In addition the Council House will also be used to house meetings and ceremonies.
